MIT Chennai wins award at ‘Shell Eco Marathon Race-2014′ in Philippines

First time, They made a Hybrid Car last year by getting sponsors, to participate in Shell Eco Marathon ‘13, an Asia level mileage Competition, Malaysia. Due to some natural hazard, the event was cancelled. So they tried hard and pushed all it takes to participate in the Shell Eco Marathon ’14, Philippines. This time they a made few alterations in the old car and changed it to Electric Car. They tried and made few innovative things for safety, just to participate in the Event. They worked too hard and this Happened!!!
The Car they made working hard did not arrive at Philippines when they went there for the Event, due to some Customs Problem during Shipping in Singapore. They were heart broken. But their spirit did not bogged down. They approached Shell and got some support from DLS University, Philippines and made a new Electric Car in just TWO DAYS!!!!! And so, now, they did not just participate in the event, they got Perseverance and Spirit Award and they made the whole of India proud for making car in just Two Days…… Hats Off Guys…. Deserved it!! Only Indian team to win an award!!

Dhaksha, a team comprising faculty, students and technical consultants of Madras Institute of Technology, attached to Anna University, Chennai, has been shortlisted to participate in the final leg of UAVForge, an international competition for unmanned air vehicles, to be held at Fort Stewart military base in Georgia ,USA from May 10 to 20. MIT team has been shortlisted from 132 teams across the world.
In the challenge, team Dhaksha is the only team from India competing against teams from countries including USA, Singapore, Holland, Germany and the UK. Unmanned flying vehicles will carry out difficult tasks like flying for two miles, observing a target for three hours, relaying information back to base and vertical takeoff and landing. All UAVs taking part would be small enough to fit in a rucksack and capable of being operated by a single person.
Dr Senthil Kumar, assistant professor, MIT, and team leader of Dhaksha, said, “We’ve got a strong chance of winning despite facing some of the best engineers across the globe from prestigious institutions like Massachusetts Institute of Technology from USA, Middlesex University from UK, NTU and NUS from Singapore and other UAV industry participants.
Anna University vice-chancellor Prof. P. Mannar Jawahar announced that the university would provide financial assistance to help them develop their mission. “We need the country to support us to demonstrate that MIT will continue to be leaders in research and development.” Dr S. Shanmugavel, registrar of Anna University said.

'Anusat', a 60 Kg micro satellite for communication and education purposes is being designed and fabricated at Anna University, Chennai in collaboration with Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).The thrust of this project is to encourage advanced inter-disciplinary studies and research activities in Indian universities and to generate highly skilled work force for the future space programs. This collaboration is the first of its kind in India. Mr Rajaram Nagappa, a fellow MITian, former ISRO scientist and the Chief of Centre for Aerospace Research, MIT is the key interface person between the ISRO experts and the academic community.
Students and Professors from various departments have been actively involved in this project for almost an year now. At present various subsystems of power electronic systems, the BUS electronic and RF systems have been developed. Few of the subsystems like All-Digital FSK receiver, Turbo coder and the GPS receiver have been demonstrated to ISRO.
The satellite would be supported by ground stations located in Anna University, Pune University, IIT Guwahati and University of Roorkee. With the project activities going at the current pace, the micro satellite is expected to be launched in the last quarter of 2004-2005, as an auxiliary payload of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). The launch will indeed make us feel proud of our alma mater.
